WHY IS REM0UNT ROAD BEING CLOSED?

While much of the work on the new Remount Road interchange has been done adjacent to the existing roadway and exit ramps, it is necessary to connect the new interchange into the existing roadway.

There are several points at which the new roadway and interchange will cross over the old roadway and interchange:

  • The new Remount Road exit ramp from I-26 westbound.
  • The new I-26 overpass on the Rivers Avenue side of I-26.
  • The future entrance and exit ramps from/to I-26 eastbound.
  • Tying the new Remount Road into the existing Remount Road on the airport side of I-26.

Work on the new overpass, interchange and future Remount Road has focused on building all that could be done without impacting traffic.  Once closed, work operations are scheduled to go both day and night to complete these connections and allow the new roadway and interchange to open to traffic as soon as possible.

WHEN WILL REMOUNT ROAD RE-OPEN?

While a specific date has not be set, tentative plans are to complete the work and re-open the interchange and Remount Road to traffic no later than mid-November.

When Remount Road re-opens, direct access to the North Charleston City Courthouse via Casper Pagent Way, which has been closed off since earlier in the project, will be restored.
