South Carolina's laws regarding "Call Before You Dig" hadn't been updated since 1978 and had numerous loopholes meaning that calling before working didn't always protect construction workers and homeowners. U.S. Group played a key role in crafting a reform bill which passed both House and Senate unanimously and was quickly signed into law by Governor Nikki Haley. Read full story here...

Tailgate parties at University of South Carolina (USC) Gamecocks football games should be more enjoyable this fall with the construction of a sparkling new parking area adjacent to the stadium.
The just-opened parking area, on the southwest side of Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, also serves visitors to the South Carolina State Fair, which will ran this year from Oct. 14 to 25.

New plan has project ahead of schedule

The S.C. Transportation Department and U.S. Group, the construction company running the project, are working out details to speed up the project by doing the Aviation and Remount bridge work at the same time. That could complete the entire project a few months ahead of schedule, maybe by the end of 2010 or earlier. The work had been scheduled to end in April 2011. Read full story here...

It's a wall. A 100-ton concrete wall.
The retaining wall for the eastbound off-ramp by the Bank of America building is being built with Shot-crete, a new generation concrete application that uses air pressure and a pump to spread a congealing mass of the liquid stone. Read full story here...

Some of those working with U.S. Group on the project say that local drivers have demonstrated some of the worst behavior they have ever experienced. Workers have been hit by objects thrown from cars and unnerved by vehicles that weave in and out of traffic, flying by only a few feet away. Some drivers will get away with it, but plenty will not.
