CLEMSON ROAD

When completed, this four-mile new roadway project was the final link in a regional artery connecting Interstate 77 with Interstate 20 in the northeast of Columbia. The roadway opened to traffic approximately two months ahead of deadline, bringing early relief to some of the worst traffic congestion in the Midlands region.

The new roadway replaced a nearby dangerous at-grade railroad with an overpass, and allowed two roads which had connected the existing end of Clemson Road with Interstate 77, which included two dangerous intersections, to be closed.
