I-26 & US 17-A INTERCHANGE

U.S. Group was the contractor for this "Gateway to Summerville". This involved reconstructing the existing interchange, which involved replacing the existing four-lane overpass with a ten-lane structure. In addition, North Main Street (U.S. 17 Alternate) was widened to include additional travel lanes, as well as additional turn lanes for nearby retail shopping centers.

This project included a number of aesthetic changes, such as planted earth medians and brick walls throughout the project area. This project required extensive coordination with utilities and the business property owners along the road. Traffic control on both US 17 Alternative and Interstate 26 presented additional challenges throughout the project, with regard to scheduling work, traffic control approaches and work staging.
