I-26 & U.S. 378 “URBAN DIAMOND INTERCHANGE”

Sites by Satellite (Google Earth)

One of the most congested traffic choke points in the Midlands was replaced with one of the state’s first Single-Point Urban Interchanges. This gave traffic on Sunset Boulevard two additional through travel lanes, twin left-turn lanes, as well as replaced two intersections for entrance and exit ramps with a single intersection.

With I-26 running through the middle of the project, and Lexington Medical Center right next to it, traffic coordination and public relations was critical to reducing the impact of this project upon both Interstate and emergency traffic. The company’s community-sensitive communication approach won praise from hospital officials:

"US Group's efforts to make sure LMC employees were kept up-to-date on the project's progression has been invaluable to us. US Group made sure that we were informed of closings, lane shifts and other important matters. We're extremely impressed with the manner in which the entire project was handled."
- Chuck Wendt, Vice President of Marketing, Lexington Medical Center
